SpartanNotesSPARTANS NOTES!

Greetings Spartans!

Dear Spartan families,

The NSCHS Charter renewal petition was delivered to the Georgia Department Of Education on Tuesday, November  15th at 3:50pm! We will begin the entire revision, interview and negotiation process again through the spring, now that we've moved beyond the Fulton County School board approval and revision.  Thank you to all the governance board and non-governance board members who worked so hard to see this through and deliver a quality product.

We have only three Friday's and seventeen days of instruction left with students prior to final exams.  Finals will begin on Monday, December  19th  and each day will be an early dismissal day for students. We are working to coordinate transportation and will publish the final exam schedule shortly.

As always, thank you for all you do for our students, teachers, and each other.  A special thank you to PTSA's Betty Klein and her team of parent and student volunteers for coordinating the clean up and  painting  of the bathrooms in the commons and to PTSA for the beautiful floral wreath given by them on behalf of the teachers, students and parents at NSCHS in honor of beloved science teacher, Steve Fowler. I hope that you had a Happy Thanksgiving and that you enjoy the upcoming winter break with your families and find time to reflect, relax and rejuvenate.

Warmly,

Lisa Stueve

Volunteers Needed for Baccalaureate Service
The Baccalaureate Committee is forming and we need help from Junior parents with the reception and Senior parents with planning the service and publicizing the event.  What is Baccalaureate service? Baccalaureate Service is a traditional part of the graduation week and is an event that students and families find to be very inspirational.  A distinguished guest speaker will offer words of encouragement for the future.  The program exhibits the talent of Senior students through music and inspirational speeches.
Baccalaureate Service for the Class of 2012 will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon Hwy.  Dunwoody, GA.
All graduating Seniors and their families and friends are invited to attend the Baccalaureate Service.     Please contact Tochie Blad at tblad1@bellsouth.net  if you would like to help with the event.

TributeMany Pay Tribute to Science Teacher Mr. Steve Fowler
Wednesday, November 16, hundreds in the North Springs community came together in the school's theatre to remember and honor beloved science teacher Steven Fowler. The orchestra played and friends, students, faculty, and family members offered touching and humorous tributes to a teacher who made a difference; he was appreciated for his passion for teaching, his love of students, and his generosity of time and talent in helping young minds learn about science, especially biology. He will be missed but not forgotten. Beginning with the January 2012 science fair, the Emerging Scientist award, given to the most promising 9th grader will now be known as the Steven Fowler Science Award!  Thank you Mr. Fowler and all teachers who really do make a difference in the lives of those they touch. Thanks too for the beautiful floral wreath given by PTSA on behalf of students, teachers, and parents of North Springs in honor of Mr. Fowler. You can also offer a tribute online at  www.northspringshigh.com.
PrincipalforadaySandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos is our Principal for a Day
mayor GalambosTuesday, November 15, North Springs was honored to have as our Principal of the Day, Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos. This was the fourth year for the Fulton County School "Principal of the Day" program which invites community leaders to spend a day as "Principal" to gain an appreciation of the rewards and challenges educators face. Mayor Galambos had a full schedule which included leading the pledge and moment of silence, visiting classrooms, talking with students and teachers and attending the JGG (Jobs for Georgia Graduates) induction ceremony where she congratulated the inductees in closing remarks. Her day ended after lunch with the math department and Dr. Stueve. She said she "found the use of technology in classrooms amazing, was impressed by the dedication of teachers and students, and thought JGG's values are what the world is looking for and needs." While she appreciated all she saw and did at North Springs she also commented on all the walking we do; which as many of us know, can be tiring, but a good way to stay fit!

10th Grade Parent Night
10th Grade Parents:  This night is for you!
This Tuesday, November 29th at 6:30pm at North Springs Charter High School.   The counseling department is promoting a program specifically targeting all parents/guardians of our 10th grade students.  Students are welcome to accompany their parents but our focus will be parents.
DiscoverNSDiscover North Springs Open House a Success
Sunday, November 13, North Springs welcomed about 120 families, most from area private and out of county schools at our Open House. While the change in time from January to November resulted in somewhat smaller attendance; the feedback received was positive as parents and students liked the more personal attention they received.  Thanks to the PTSA, especially Betty Klein and Maureen Morrow for lovely refreshment tables, all the parent booster groups and student clubs and activities represented, and to the student ambassadors and PTSA members who greeted families and gave tours. Job well done. While there are no plans for an open house next semester, please let your friends and neighbors know that four additional tour dates have been added and are on the website: December 1, January 12, 19 and 24.
