SPARTANS NOTES! |

Greeting Spartans!
As I write this, I can hear the drumline performing at the flag pole before school. This home football Friday tradition is a student favorite and one of mine as well. Such rituals remind us of the culture we share, the loyalty we've developed, and the talent and creative energy of our students.
Our teachers are bringing that same kind of energy to the classroom. They are working hard to connect content and kids to make the act of learning dynamic and compelling. During administrative focus walks I come away impressed with the learning environment our staff has created.
Our charter petition moved to the consent agenda for the FCS Board on 10/20 and we now prepare the required changes for submission to the Georgia Department of Education on 11/15. Parents, students, teachers and administrators, even the community at large, are all stakeholders in the success of North Springs Charter High School. Your support means a lot to us.
In the past weeks, you have been hearing from the Fulton County Board of Education about a referendum on continuing the one-cent SPLOST for education another five years. The question will be on the county's November 8 ballot. We will leave it to the experts to steer Fulton into the 21st century with technology enhancements, facility improvements and infrastructure upgrades. Our staff will remain focused on what's best for Spartans. I'm honored to be a part of FCS and work beside the dedicated professionals at North Springs.
Warmly,
Lisa Stueve |

Sandy Springs Festival Performance
The Marching Spartans entertained young and old at the recent Sandy Springs Festival. With the soulful beat of the drum line leading the way, the band made a grand entrance through the crowds, to the band stand on the green. Children danced and adults clapped along as the Spartans took the stage. Drum Major Michael McDaniel directed half time show music, and the band wowed the crowd with other school favorites, such as songs played in the stands at football games.

SPLOST - Did You Know ?
|
In preparation for developing the capital program, the District undertook an extensive, thorough assessment of its facilities. The detailed assessment of all schools provided the District a basis for determining if continued investment through renovation of the existing schools is the most cost effective way to address renewal needs. The system has approximately $400M in existing deficiencies.
Our current school technology standard is insufficient in today's environment. We currently have equipment that often fails within the schools, due to the age of the tool. Our infrastructure does not support state-of-the-art requirements for wireless technology and online access to information that supports learning. An important item in the upcoming SPLOST is to increase our technology infrastructure and resources.
